Rick is a leading New Zealand ICT Lawyer (information and communication technology law) (particularly internet law), and has a masters degree in internet and copyright law. He is a past vice president of InternetNZ where he was part of the working group responsible for the introduction of New Zealand's current shared registry domain name structure. More recently, Rick has headed up the team responsible for policy development of New Zealand's domain name dispute resolution service. He is a founding member of the Auckland District Law Society's Law and technology Committee and is chair of the Internet Safety Group and Hector's World Limited, world leading not-for-profit organisations pioneering cybersafety in the use of ICT.
Rick also has significant expertise in advising boards and shareholders in listed companies, particularly in response to takeover situations - often as a result of the incumbent law firm having a conflict of interest on a particular transaction. Apart from his membership of the above organisations, Rick is also a member of the New Zealand Computer Society, the institute of Directors and the New Zealand Shareholders Society. He is also chairman of KidsCan Charitable Trust (www.kidscan.org.nz) which provides food, clothes and raincoats in decile 1-3 New Zealand schools. Recently, Rick has been heavily involved in ISP copyright issues raised by S92A of the Copyright Act 1994 as consultant to the Telecommunication Carriers' Forum (www.tcf.org.nz/copyright). |
