Hours:

Full time position, work hours are 37.5 hours per week, 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, with an hour taken for lunch at an agreed time, and otherwise as necessary to meet client requirements.

What is the role?

We are looking for an exceptional litigation associate to join our close knit litigation team.

The role will involve conducting legal research, drafting pleadings and submissions, managing document disclosure, advising clients, and representing clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and court.

The role requires initiative, strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and excellent client relationship management.

The litigation team is engaged in a wide variety of commercial litigation work, including general commercial disputes, insolvency and securities, shipping, regulatory issues in various fields, shareholder disputes, property disputes, and estate and trust disputes.

What you will be doing

  • Managing a caseload of commercial litigation matters from inception to resolution.
  • Conducting thorough legal research and providing pragmatic, expert advice to clients on various legal issues.
  • Working with and supporting barristers, and relevant specialist expert witnesses.
  • Drafting a wide range of legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, submissions, and settlement agreements.
  • Representing clients in alternative dispute resolution processes like mediations and arbitrations, and at court or tribunal hearings.
  • Building strong relationships with clients, providing regular updates and delivering exceptional client service.
  • Collaborating with other members of the litigation team and the firm on complex cases and mentoring support staff.

About you

  • Ideally you will have 2-4 years’ PQE perhaps gained working in a top tier or boutique law firm, and hold (or are entitled to hold) a current NZ practising certificate.
  • You will be highly motivated and self-driven and have gained solid experience from working in New Zealand and/or overseas.
  • You are super organised and think ahead!
  • You have the ability to work flexibly and independently, set priorities, work simultaneously on tasks, exercise good judgement and initiative and meet/exceed fee targets.
  • You have a proven record of displaying strong attention to detail and a deep dedication to client service.
  • You like to work collaboratively and engage with the team to deliver results.
  • You have the ability to handle deadlines and pressure.
