RPAS - Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems - New Rules

At the moment Parts 19 and 101 of the Civil Aviation Rules (CARs) govern the operation of RPAS in New Zealand airspace. (See our earlier note on the current rules UAS, UAV, RPA, Drone – Call it what you will). As part of the long-term process of integrating RPAS into New Zealand’s aviation environment, the Civil Aviation Authority has now announced that it intends to create a new Part 102 specifically for RPAS. A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking will be circulated later this year, giving the public and industry an opportunity for comment and input. CAA will also publish a supporting advisory circular.  For further information contact Karl Stolberger.
